Quality Problems? The standards by which the quality of fine products are measured is growing daily. Especially the customer's expectations regarding the percentage of oversize in his fines and the maximum grain size range in his end product trigger a new necessity for more effective quality control.

For the classification of fine bulk products wire cloth is normally used. Depending on the abrasiveness of the product at hand the media wears. Wear in the screen leads to holes in the media resulting in an unsatisfactory quality of the end product. In the attempt to detect worn media in the production process most customers control their product quality by taking samples. Problems are noticed after the screen has failed. The result is an unsatisfactory end product and a need for constant quality control to keep losses in valuable production time to a minimum.

TYCAN® Q-CHECK
TYCAN® introduces its new quality control device called Q-CHECK (Quality-Check). Designed and engineered in cooperation with a sand producing customer the direct installation of the Q-Check into the production stream guarantees continuous product sampling and grain range supervision. The basic components of the device are a feeding shute, an electromagnetic screening machine and a check-weigher with an indicator.

The Procedure
Out of the fine stream of a sizing screen, a sample is fed to the Q-Check. The media on the Q-Check is gauged to the sizing media being monitored. Under normal conditions the sampled material passes through the Q-Check media and is returned to the main material stream. In the event that the sizing media is broken, the sample will contain significantly coarser particles, which will be rejected and directed to the check-weigher. Once full, the check-weigher initiates a signal. Depending on the customer's specification, the initiator can be connected to an alarm signal (i.e. a light or a horn) or directly to the production control system allowing an automatic screen shut-off.

The Advantages
In an overview the TYCAN® Q-Check offers the following advantages:

  • Quality control on-line

  • Cost savings from not having to reject and rescreen product not meeting specifications

  • Heavy-duty design suitable for any working environment

  • Easy and quick installation into existing plants

  • Control through the integration into the plant control system (via alarm horn, light or on-line)

  • Minimal investment and operating costs
